As we previously reported, seminal post-hardcore troupe At The Drive-In have reunited for some shows this summer, including Coachella and Spain’s Benicassim (their first European appearance since 2001).
Now guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has told Kerrang (via NME) that there will be no new material from the band, describing it as a "pure nostalgia thing… It’s an old T-shirt that doesn’t fit me any more, but when you put it on again, it feels nice. It’s as simple as that."
Hey, at least he’s being honest about it.
Rodriguez-Lopez also told NME that their decision to reunite, a decade after their apparently acrimonious ‘indefinite hiatus’, was partly motivated by money.
"We’re not getting any younger and there’s been an offer of money every year," he said. "You can’t avoid that. You’d be a fool and a politician to pretend that wasn’t part of it".
He also admitted that the reuinion was "going to be weird. It’s like getting back with your ex-wife, only in this case there are four ex-wives."
2012’s looks set to be quite the summer for much-loved hardcore band reformations – Umea’s Refused, who split in 1998 not long after the release of their hardcore/jazz/electronic manifesto The Shape Of Punk To Come, have also reunited for live dates, including Coachella alongside ATD-I.
