Asian Dub Foundation Reveal New Album

Asian Dub Foundation have announced details of their forthcoming new album – and a unique collaboration with veiny lizard Iggy Pop.

Punkara (apparently named for a combination of ‘punk’ and ‘banghra’, though we’re not sure where the middle ‘a’ comes from) will be released on October 6th.

Featured on the album will be a version of ‘No Fun’, which came about after Asian Dub Foundation shared a festival stage with Iggy Pop. Apparently Pop said that ADF were the best band he’d seen in three decades, and revealed that when he played their demo in his automobile, he got so excited he ended up with a speeding ticket.

Speaking about the ‘No Fun’ cover, Chandrasonic said "’No Fun’ involves two visceral music forms, unbridled, off the hook banghra meets unbridled off the hook thrash proto-punk. The two aren’t combined very often but they have a lot in common." He added that he’d told vocalist Sups to "imagine if you were your Dad drunk on whiskey" when recording the track.
