Arthur’s Landing, a collective of musicians and collaborators who originally worked with Arthur Russell, will perform their debut UK gig on 20th February at the ICA, The Quietus can exclusively report. The performance will accompany the launch of Tim Lawrence’s biography of Russell, ‘Hold On To Your Dreams’.
The core band comprises Ernie Brooks, ex-bassist with the Modern Lovers, and former Russell regulars Steven Hall, Peter Zummo, Bill Ruyle and Mustafa Ahmed. An album will follow on STRUT Records in April featuring new recordings of classic and rare Russell songs, including ‘Love Dancing’, ‘Your Motion Says’, ‘I’ll Be Fencing’ and ‘Lucky Cloud’.
There will be regular Arthur’s Landing releases at least every six months, including a remix album, a live album and an acoustic album featuring various Arthur’s Landing side projects from its various members. Other notable “floating” guests include Jerry Harrison from Talking Heads, and Nomi from Hercules & Love Affair.
Adding to the seemingly inexhaustible canon of Russell’s work is Matt Wolf’s acclaimed film, ‘Wild Combination’, now available on DVD, and a Russell covers album, featuring new versions by Yam Who?.
Tickets to the event are £14 + £1 booking fee in advance, available from the ICA BOX OFFICE: 020 7930 3647 / www.ica.org.uk
