A new compilation of previously unreleased Arthur Russell recordings has been announced.
Titled Iowa Dream, the 19-track collection takes in demos, unreleased home recordings and lost songs by the late artist. You can hear ‘You Did It Yourself’ from the release above.
The set is the result of a decade of archival work by Steve Knutson and Arthur Russell’s partner Tom Lee. Across the record, there are collaborations with the likes of Rhys Chatham, David Van Tieghem and Henry Flynt. Multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick also worked alongside Audika Records, who will release the compilation, to complete a number of almost-finished songs.
Audika Records will release Iowa Dream on November 15. Read tQ’s oral history on the production of Russell’s 1983 album, Tower of Meaning, here.
