The Possibilities Are Endless Aphasia Awareness Campaign is holding a free art workshop on this month’s Bank Holiday (Monday, May 25) at the RSPB’s Rainham Marshes reserve in Essex for those afflicted by aphasia or who have suffered a stroke, as well as their family, friends and caretakers. The event aims to promote art as a form of communication for those living with the condition, as well as raise awareness for the communication disability that affects more than 250,000 people in the UK.
The film from which the campaign draws its name focuses on the life of Edwyn Collins, the singer-songwriter and former Orange Juice man, who has aphasia after suffering two cerebral haemorrhages at 45. At the marshes, art therapist Cat Andrew will give a bird drawing seminar celebrating Collins’ avian and artistic passions. For further details on the campaign and film, look here.
