Anywhere, a project formed by The Mars Volta/At The Drive-In man Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Triclops! member Christian Eric Beaulieu, are due to release their self-titled debut album through ATP Recordings on Record Store Day. The band, which also features Mike Watt (The Minutemen) on bass and Rachel Fannan (formerly of Sleepy Sun) on guest vocals, have previously released two limited 7" singles which are now long sold-out.
Anywhere originally came together when Zavala and Beaulieu became friends at an art event in LA and discussed the possiblity of recording together. Beaulieu had become interested in raga music and open tunings, and planned to record something acoustic in a similar vein alongside Zavala. The duo tracked their respective parts at The Melvins’ practice space in LA a few months later, and after Christian played alongside Mike Watt during the same visit to the city he elisted Watt to provide bass for the record. The album, which consists of seven tracks, features three tracks with Zavala performing vocals, guest vocals from Fannan on an additional two, and the rest is left instrumental.
In keeping with Zavala’s day job, writing expansive prog rock with the Mars Volta, Anywhere is described a blend of "acoustic and minimal electric guitars with a multitude of percussion instrumentation, digital tabla machines, sci fi electronics and feedback… Modern mantras of electric silence that fuse consciousness into a recording of vibrant, transitional material, blending geographic as well as cultural diversity."
The album will initially be made available as a Record Store Day exclusive – 500 copies on aqua vinyl with download code. Wider CD and digital releases are set to follow on 14th May.
