On Monday, September 15, the heady Bristol pairing of Anthroprophh and their label Rocket Recordings continue their quest to reserve the good name of psych for the truly deserving with the band’s new album, Outside The Circle. It’s the second full-length, coming after last year’s self-titled LP, from the band, led by Paul ‘Prof’ Allen formerly of The Heads, Bristol’s most feted psychedelic spawn, joined by Gareth Turner and Jesse Webb of the Big Naturals, and we’ve kindly been given a first spin. Opening with the blazing riffs of ‘Returning’, it passes through frazzled electronic matter and noise regurgitations, dense fugs of strobing feedback and some masterful guitar work from Allen, as well as some fine nomenclature, our favourite, ‘Detached And In Its Own Mind Riding A Ghost Train Through A Fairground It Had Built Itself’, just ahead of ‘Crow With Sore Throat’.
Have a listen above; downloads are available to pre-order over at Rocket’s Bandcamp, while vinyl copies will be available in all good record shops next week.
