Anthony Child, otherwise known as Surgeon, and Daniel Bean have teamed up for a new project called The Transcendence Orchestra with their first collaborative album set to be released via Editions Mego in December.
Above, from their forthcoming album which is titled Modern Methods For Ancient Rituals, you can hear ‘Upper Windrush’. Much like the rest of the album, it’s a longform piece standing at 12 minutes, taking in instruments such as the Buchla Music Easel synth, bass guitar and a variety of other tools.
The new record follows on from Child’s previous outings on Editions Mego for two volumes of Electronic Recordings From Maui Jungle, both records which saw him move significantly away from the kick drums and industrialism of his techno output as Surgeon.
Bean and Child first met over a decade ago when the former was part of the collective behind the Bleep43 parties in London, at which Surgeon was a regular performer. The pair both had a keen interest in drones and spiritualist synthesiser music, later forming The Transcendence Orchestra in order to explore this shared passion.
The record was recorded over the course of just 24 hours in a remote English rural setting and its release follows on from an early live performance by the pair at Wales’ Freerotation Festival. Modern Methods For Ancient Rituals is out on December 15 with the pair set to play London’s Cafe OTO on December 14.
