Another New Thing Share Debut Single, ‘A Message’

It comes ahead of an album from the Pennsylvania/Preston/Sheffield trio

Another New Thing – a trio consisting of Pennsylvania novelist and musician Don Himlin, prolific Preston-based synth wizard Paul Nagle, and the excellent Dean Honer of The Eccentronic Research Council, The Moonlandingz, The International Teachers Of Pop, The All Seeing I and more – have shared their first single, ‘A Message’.

It’s the first track to be revealed from the trio’s debut album, XYZZY, which is due to be released early next year. You can watch a video for the song, directed by Danni Maibaum, above.

Himlin, Nagle and Honer first met during the 2015 Sonic Weekend in Wales, organised by Ann Shenton of Add N To X, where all three were among a number of people to have gathered in a remote farmhouse to make and record music. Five years later, during their respective coronavirus lockdowns, Nagle sent some modular synthesiser tracks to Himlin for him to add guitar, vocals and bass to. Impressed with the results they then sent them to Honer for production and mixing, who subsequently became a fully-fledged member of the group. They chose their name, says Himlin, "because that is what it is. To old scrotes, everything is a new thing!"

Dipped In Gold will release XYZZY on February 19 2021.
