ANOHNI Details New LP, ‘My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross’

The record addresses loss of loved ones, inequality, alienation and other subjects

ANOHNI has a new album on the way.

Spanning 10 tracks, My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross explores topics such as loss of loved ones, inequality and alienation, according to a press release. It was sketched out together with soul producer Jimmy Hogarth with the two initially working on ideas on piano and guitar before inviting a studio band to join them for the recording of the full album. You can watch a video for lead track ‘It Must Change’, which stars model and trans activist Munroe Bergdorf, above.

Speaking about the new album, which follows on from 2016’s HOPELESSNESS, ANOHNI said in a statement: "I’ve been thinking a lot about Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On. That was a really important touchstone in my mind. Some of these songs respond from the present day to global and environmental concerns first voiced in popular music over 50 years ago."

Rough Trade / Secretly Canadian will release My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross on July 7, 2023.
