Public Image Ltd. share a previously unreleased version of 'Annalisa'

Public Image Ltd. have shared a previously unreleased version of their 1978 track ‘Annalisa’. You can listen to it above.

The track will be available as an instant gratification download from tomorrow and will be featured on an upcoming box set celebrating the band’s 40th anniversary, entitled The Public Image Is Rotten (Songs From The Heart).

Speaking about the track in an upcoming documentary on the band’s history, John Lydon says: "Annalisa: a bizarre story. It’s about a young 14-year-old girl in Germany. Her parents were convinced she was possessed by demons. So they called in a priest and they suffocated her while trying to ex-communicate these demons. They actually killed the poor girl."

Released across CD, DVD, vinyl and digital formats, the box set features the complete PiL singles collection, B-sides, rarities and radio sessions, 12" mixes, unreleased tracks and alternate versions of past singles and a live concert from New York Ritz recorded in July 1989. The DVD includes footage from music videos as well as the band’s appearances on Top Of The Pops and The Old Grey Whistle Test, and concerts filmed in 1988 and 2013. You can pre-order the box set in its various formats ahead of its July 20 release here.

The box set’s release also coincides with the screening of a documentary about the band’s 40-year history also titled The Public Image Is Rotten. The film offers a behind the scenes look at the band’s past and includes interview with former and current bandmates as well as musicians such as Flea and Thurston Moore.
