Animal Collective have released a new song, ‘Defeat’.
Clocking in at 22 minutes, the new cut features guest contributions from musicians Samara Lubelski (violin), Leila Bordreuil (cello) and Ben Chapoteau-Katz (saxophone). You can listen to the full track above.
‘Defeat’ will be released on a limited edition 12-inch vinyl, together with the B-side ‘The Challenge (Live Edit)’. The latter is a completely improvised track, and originated as an unrehearsed intro to the 2022 song ‘Strung With Everything’ while Animal Collective were on tour last year. The recorded version that appears on the 12-inch record was collaged together from 11 different shows that the band played between March and September of 2022.
Domino will release Defeat / The Challenge (Live Edit) on August 25, 2023.
