Anyone familiar with Andy Votel’s Finders Keepers label will know that it has a deserved reputation for unearthing pop and library music gems lost to the archive of history.
So any mixes he records tend to be well worthy of attention, creating as they do a strange alchemy between old and new tracks from different sides of the globe. This week he’s recorded a mix for DaddyBeGood – as its name suggests, a website for dads – with a rough theme of music for kids, and music that parents might love. As expected, it brings together old folk songs, kids’ TV themes (the Moomins makes an appearance) and more. And it’s rather great.
You can get the mix here. You have to join the site to get it, but it does promise offers of things to do with your kids. Either way, there’s also an interesting discussion by Votel himself about the tracks he’s included.
As with so many labels this week, it was distressing to hear that around 90% of Finders Keepers’ stock was lost in the PIAS fire on Monday night. As part of our list of 20 records to buy from PIAS labels, we recommended Pomegranates: Persian Pop, Funk & Psych Of The 60s & 70s.
