Remaining busy as ever, Andrew Weatherall’s next project will come in the form of a new solo album, released via Höga Nord Rekords.
Streaming exclusively above is the album’s opening track, ‘Evidence The Enemy, a driving, krautrock-esque thumper that builds hypnotically around twinkling synths and a vacant, repetitive vocal sample: "Hello!"
The album, entitled Qualia, takes inspiration from the work of French novelist Patrick Modiano and writer David Keenan, with Weatherall namechecking works such as Modiano’s The Black Notebook and Keenan’s This Is Memorial Device.
"Whatever your leanings the music on Qualia is the result of images, feelings and thought processes stirred up by Monsieur Modiano and Mister Keenan channeled through the medium of a sonic noteboook – in itself the memoir of somebody else’s life/fiction," Weatherall explains. My own black notebooks, like [Modiano’s protagonist] Jean’s stir the silt of memory and birth as many mysteries as memories. They also provided the track titles."
The album folllows on quickly from 2016’s Convenanza as well as the debut album from a new project from Weatherall called The Woodleigh Research Facility. Qualia is set for release on September 29. You can pre-order the album here.
