Brian Dougans and Garry Cobain, aka Amorphous Androgynous, are currently readying the fourth addition to their A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble (Exploding In Your Mind) mix series. The Wizards Of Oz will be out on March 16 through their own Monstrous Bubble Recordings imprint and Festival Records, and is the product of two years’ toiling at the Antipodean psych coalface, unearthing some mighty gems from the ’60s to the present day in the process. Expect offerings from Kanguru, Russell Morris, Geoff Krozier & The Generator, Hiroshi & Claudia, Madder Lake, Rob Thomsett, Mandu, Doug Jerebine, Sons Of The Vegetal Mother, Railroad Gin & Air, Tame Impala and Pond, while Cybotron’s ‘Raga In Asia Minor’ and Sunset Strip’s ‘Mercy Killing’ have already been unveiled. Now, they’ve been kind enough to let us in on one of their other finds, ‘Salem Abdullah’ from the Malaysian composer and artist Leong Lau’s second album, 1977’s That Rongeng Sound, a jazz-inflected jam that unfurls from a spaced sax opening and meanders through some natty organ work and hazed synth chords.
