Alva Noto And Ryuichi Sakamoto Reveal ‘Utp’ Reissue

An ongoing series of remastered reissues of the duo's collaborative records continues later this month

Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s 2009 album Utp has been newly remastered for a reissue via NOTON that will be released later this month.

The reissue of the album will mark the first time that it has been made available on vinyl, with CD and digital formats also set to be released. It forms part of a series of recent remastered reissues of Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s collaborative albums, following on from the re-release of the albums Vrioon, Insen and Revep earlier this year.

Upon its original release, Utp marked the fourth instalment of Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s collaborative V.I.R.U.S. series. The album features a recording of a performance by the two artists together with Ensemble Modern at the National Theatre in Mannheim, which was commissioned for the 400th anniversary of the city of Mannheim in Germany. Originally designed as a multimedia piece, it was released across CD, digital and multichannel DVD formats via raster-noton.

NOTON will release Utp on September 30, 2022.
