Ryoichi Kurokawa, the pioneering Berlin-based digital artist, is set to give a one-off performance of his new audiovisual show Syn_ tonight at the BFI.
It’s part of the institute’s Sonic Cinema Series and is the result of a collaboration with London festival organisation Alpha-ville, who say: "Abandoning humanism and aesthetics, Syn_ explores abstract and musical patterns. In this work, simultaneity and synaesthesia – the correspondence of sensations and perceptions, such as sounds and colours, play masterfully on harmony and dissonance creating a show that many artists and avant-garde filmmakers – from Paul Klee and Norman MacLaren to Vassily Kandinsky had dreamed during the twentieth century, long before the appearance and the democratisation of digital technologies."
We picked out Kurokawa’s installation at last year’s Bozar Electronic Arts Fest as one of the event’s highlights, so would urge readers to head to the BFI for the show’s start at 7 pm – tickets will be available on the door. In advance of the performance, have a watch of the Syn_ teaser video below:
