Alan Vega from Suicide is set to release a split with Vermont’s The Vacant Lots as part of Fuzz Club‘s Split Single series, due May 20. The Sonic Cathedral-signed psych duo were quite rightly chuffed about working with Vega, with the band recently taking a seat at his breakfast table after playing New York’s Bowery Ballroom. Jared from the band said meeting him was: "Truly one of the most amazing experiences ever. He is 100% artist." Have a look at a picture from their meeting here. The band received some pretty astounding compliments from Vega who, as well as agreeing to remix some of their album tracks for release later in the year, said "I’m ending, and you’re beginning… It’s about time Suicide finally caught on… I’m retired now… It’s like passing down the torch now".
You can listen to the product of Vega’s maximum artistry in ‘Nike Soldier’ above, followed by The Vacant Lots’ ‘Mad Mary Jones’, an alternate mix of the track from their upcoming debut LP, Departure, out on June 30 via Sonic Cathedral. Pre-order that here and get hold of the album version – the video for which is at the foot of the piece – as an instant download.
The rest of the Split Single series also looks exciting, with releases from Thurston Moore, Anton Newcombe, Lee Ranaldo, Dead Skeletons, A Place To Bury Strangers and more all lined up. The Vega/Vacant Lots 10" is available to pre-order via the label’s store upon release. It’s limited to 400 copies, with 300 on white and 100 on clear vinyl.
