LISTEN: Stream Alameda 5’s New LP

Hear Duch tornada in its entirety ahead of release next week

We’ve made our love for Jakub ‘Kuba’ Ziolek pretty clear over the years at tQ. Whether it’s his work creating one of our albums of 2013 as Stara Rzeka, or forming grandiose psychedelic pieces centred on earthy riffs as Alameda 3, the prolific composer and guitarist has always caught our collective ear.

Two years on from Alameda 3’s last, crushing record and Ziolek has returned with a bigger band and a new album. Now under the moniker Alameda 5, Duch tornada is at times serene, elsewhere frantic. It layers the synthetic over the analogue over the synthetic before pulling back into complex syncopation and Eastern jazz melodies and a million other things. It’s baffling and wonderful and it definitely needs more than one listen. Thankfully, Ziolek has shared the album with us in advance so we all have some time to get to grips with it before it drops on Instant Classic on May 11. Listen to it above. You’ll want to sit down first.
