Friend of the Quietus Akira the Don has paid tribute to the late Steven Wells in the most recent mixtape to be released over on his website.
"The first version of the mixtape was created at the request of Steven’s friend and collaborator David Quantick, and played at a party celebrating Swells’ life held in London a few weeks ago," says Akira of the mix; "Alongside mixing over an hours worth of Swells sanctioned music, I wrote a song for the great man, extolling his many virtues, chief among them his Greatest Of All Time staus in music writing."
So there’s a lot of the music that Swells upset children in parkas and hairclips by championing over the years, from Daphne and Celeste to Chumbawamba, Daisy Chainsaw and Shampoo… PLUS! Kylie, NWA, Elastica, Sleeper, The Clash Atari Teenage Riot, Bis vs. Public Enemy, and many many more
You’ll also hear some of Swells’ own work – says Akira, "I especially enjoyed getting to listen to Steven’s poetry and romance fiction. That, and singing ‘TITS OUT TEENAGE TERROR TOTTY!’ over and over at the top of my lungs for about half an hour.
SO! Visit Akira The Don Dot Com to download this fine tribute to a great man.
