Aidan Moffat and RM Hubbert released one of tQ’s favourite albums of the year in the form of carnal lullaby collection Here Lies The Body in May.
Now, Moffat and Hubbert have announced they’ll follow up the collaboration with a second LP, Ghost Stories For Christmas, billed as "an alternative view on the Season to be Jolly".
It’s out on December 7, and will be preceded by single ‘A Ghost Story For Christmas’
It was originally intended to be a single track release, but soon expanded into an EP, and then into a full-length album.
"We were really enjoying it – there’s something pleasantly perverse about recording Christmas songs in summer clothes – so we just kept going," says Moffat, who draws inspiration from the likes of Hans Christian Andersen and Charles Dickens.
There’s also covers of Yazoo’s ‘Only You’ (a Christmas Number One for The Flying Pickets in 1983), and Mud’s ‘Lonely This Christmas’.
The album features Moffat’s long-term collaborator Jenny Reeve on violin and vocals, Emma Pollock on choral duties, clarinet and flute from John Burgess, and the band’s live drummer David Jeans.
Moffat and Hubbert have also announced a small run of special Christmas shows, which are as follows:
DECEMBER
11, Cluny, Newcastle
12, Oslo, London
13, Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff
14, Soup Kitchen, Manchester
