Adrian Sherwood: New LP Details

Out on On-U Sound this summer, listen to a sampler here!

We’re very pleased to announce that Adrian Sherwood will be releasing a new album later this year. The excellently-named Survival and Resistance will come out via Sherwood’s On-U Sound label on August 20th.

We are told that Survival and Resistance sees Sherwood "Drawing on the upheaval of the all-too-recent London riots and staring down the current international economic crisis, the album is an earnest critique of current injustices." We’re also told that it can be seen as the final part of a triptych alongside Sherwood’s previous solo outings, 2003’s Never Trust A Hippy and 2006’s Becoming A Cliché.

Speaking about his current work, Sherwood says "I’ve really spent hours and hours studying aspects of sound and production, and I’m still doing it. A lot of other people may have made lots of money, but they couldn’t even sell one tune anymore. I’ve had my times, I’ve had the greatest experiences in the world,

worked with all my heroes, and I’m still able to do it. I can still go out and play to a young crowd for two hours, and have a really good vibe, and I can make records. That, for me, is proper."

Sherwood also plays a date at Village Underground in London on July 13th. Under the banner Dub Sessions Volume 1, it features Sherwood, Africa Hitech, Kwesachu and Ross Allen. You can buy tickets here. Check out the Mixcloud below for Sherwood’s recent appearance.
