Much rejoicing and donning of hats with buckles on them in the Quietus offices today as the trailer for Ben Wheatley’s A Field In England is released, ahead of the film itself, which comes out on July 5.
To say that tQ has been excited about the prospect of Wheatley’s (Kill List, Sightseers) latest film is something of an understatement and the trailer has done nothing to dampen the fervor, featuring as it does some of our favourite things: alchemy, grimy English landscapes and actors in period costume tripping balls. Indeed it comes across for all the world like a cross between Witchfinder General, Valhalla Rising and an ergot-damaged Depeche Mode video. Have a look below and tell us what you think:
The press release also notes: "A Field In England will be the first ever film to be released in UK cinemas, on free TV, on DVD and on video-on-demand on the same day – with Film4, Picturehouse Entertainment, 4DVD and Film4 Channel partnering for nationwide multi-platform distribution on Friday 5 July. The film is one of the first to receive funding from the BFI Distribution Fund New Models strand, which supports experimental and ambitious release models." All of which is very important, but keep your eye on the main point here: civil war soldiers and an alchemist in a field tripping their tits off. What special times we live in.
