4AD is celebrating 40 years since its launch with the release of a new compilation, Bills & Aches & Blues, next month.
The 18-track release, which has been split into four sides, sees some of the label’s current roster cover classic tracks from the label’s back catalogue. Among the covers, Jenny Hval takes on Lush’s ‘Sunbathing’, The Breeders cover His Name Is Alive’s ‘The Dirt Eaters’, Bing And Ruth rework Pixies’ ‘Gigantic’, and Bradford Cox updates The Breeders’ ‘Mountain Battles’. You can watch a visual for Tkay Maidza’s cover of Pixies’ ‘Where Is My Mind?’ above.
The first 12 months’ profits from Bills & Aches & Blues will be donated to The Harmony Project, a Los Angeles-based after-school programme for children from communities and schools that lack equitable access to studying the arts or music. The album will first be released digitally next month, before a vinyl and CD release follows in July. You can find full details here.
4AD will release Bills & Aches & Blues on April 2, 2021.
