1986 Sonic Youth Bootleg, ‘Walls Have Ears’, Set For Reissue

The unofficial live album was culled from three UK gigs that the band played in 1985

A bootleg live album by Sonic Youth, called Walls Have Ears, is getting a first-time official reissue.

Culled from three shows that the band played in the UK during 1985, the bootleg recording initially appeared as a 2xLP set in 1986, but was swiftly deleted as it was not officially approved by the band and their label. It will now be released across digital, vinyl and CD formats with the band’s blessing. You can watch a video teaser for the release above.

The 1985 shows marked Sonic Youth’s second run of shows in the UK having debuted there two years earlier. Featured across the recordings on Walls Have Ears are live versions of early Sonic Youth favourites such as ‘Expressway To Yr Skull’, ‘Death Valley ’69’ and ‘The Burning Spear’, with the bulk of the tracks being taken from live shows that the band played in London. One, however, was lifted from an outdoor show that they played on Brighton Beach.

goofin’ will release Walls Have Ears on February 9, 2024.
