100% Silk, the club-focused sister label of Amanda and Britt Brown’s Not Not Fun label, is set to roll into Bristol and London venues this weekend, with a host of names in tow. The label has attracted a fair amount of both love and criticism, but its approach – melodic, thoughtful dancefloor fodder, served with a healthy dollop of glitz and glamour – has given rise to quite a few great releases, from Italo-leaning early EPs from Ital to Strategy’s scuzzed-out Boxy Music, and the new LA Vampires EP (pictured above), in collaboration with Octo Octa.
Speaking of Ital and LA Vampires, both are set to make live appearances on the tour, which calls at Glasgow’s Nice N Sleazy tonight, Bristol’s Motorcycle Showroom tomorrow (Friday 8th June) and London’s Birthdays on Saturday 9th.
LA Vampires is the main project of Amanda Brown, which touches on dubbed-out disco, murky pop and, on her new LA Vampires by Octo Octa 12", silken house. As headliner, she’ll be joined by Ital, whose recent Hive Mind album was a suite of messy longform house tracks, and whose recent live shows have impressively sliced up his recorded music into club-friendly forms. Further down the bill are Maria Minerva, whose Cabaret Cixous album was a low-key gem, and Magic Touch, who is one half of Mi Ami (alongside Ital) and again works in the realms of glittery nineties house. The former two are particularly worthwhile catching – Brown especially rarely makes it across to the UK to tour. For a little extra incentive in Bristol, their Friday night showcase is bolstered by the addition of Berlin-based Heatsick, who has previously released through Not Not Fun and whose records have increasingly been leaning towards battered, skeletal funk and steamy club workouts.
The 100% Silk tour calls at the following locations.
