Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Linda SharrockBlack Woman

Though this is the record of Sonny Sharrock, I always listen to it primarily for Linda. Her vocalizing in Black Woman is so carefree and physical. Even just listening to the recording makes her feel so alive! Like she is in the room, right there. Where someone like Junko’s screaming feels like an alarm call, Linda’s feels sensual, out-of-body, blissful. Even at it’s most heinous, her voice feels ecstatic.
