Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

1. JunkoSleeping Beauty

For those not familiar, Junko is a member of legendary noise group Hijokaiden. She is most remembered as the girl who screamed at the top of her lungs and urinated all over the stage at shows. Junko was always the most fascinating one of the bunch, and her solo record Sleeping Beauty kind of puts it all out there. This is one of those records you can’t just put on in the background. Anything you are doing while listening to this record will take twice as long as it should. You constantly feel in a state of alarm, in the best and worst way. She’s truly an athlete and explorer. It’s impossible to listen to her and not feel a thick visceral terror, spellbound by her shrill, siren call.
