Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

4. The GlandsThe Glands

This is probably the most recent thing on the list. We were recording in Nashville and The Glands were playing a show that night. I don’t really remember why we decided to go but we broke off work and went to see them. I think all these groups, in a certain way, are the same as everything else in that they create their own world and the world is uniquely theirs but still somehow feels familiar. It’s not like ‘wow nobody’s written a song like that before!’, but at the same time there’s something indescribable about that mood. They’re from Athens, Georgia and I sort of hear that southern quality in their sound, like it’s a slower day, you’re tired out and may not be moving as fast. It’s just a beautiful, lazy pop sound.
