Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

2. Silver ApplesSilver Apples

It seems like this is the same kind of vibe that’s going on in Germany at the timeā€¦ For me anyway, it’s the playfulness, this playing with oscillators that really gets me. There’s a picture on the inside or back of the album sleeve showing the two of them in front of their instruments, in control of lots of knobs, oscillators. It’s so simple, and beautiful music. With the drumming and the oscillators, it gets very powerful. I mean, thinking of the electronic music at the time, ’67, ’68, Silver Apples are like a UFO in that sphere. And they’re doing it from the US on top of that. It’s really amazing.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Rocket Girl, Pete Fowler, , , Moby
