Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. XTCEnglish Settlement

My dad’s favourite band is XTC. That record was definitely played around the house a lot, and the songwriting is just so crazy all over the place. I feel like it ended up being pretty influential on me: using weird chord changes, singing really intense lyrics, kind of going for it. You can go into so many different universes because they’re so innovative with their production. They’re so ahead of their time. I love ‘Runaways’ and ‘Ball And Chain’. That song has amazing chord changes. And then ‘Fly On The Wall’: it’s so funny and poppy.
