Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

Rich Morel [of Who Killed Teddy Bear] and I wrote the songs ‘Rosebud’ and ‘Poem’ together [for In A Poem Unlimited], and then on Heavy Light we wrote for ‘Four American Dollars’ and ‘IOU’ together. On this record, we did ‘St. James Way’ together. We met through Ian Svenonius when I needed a place to stay on tour. Rich, Doug [aka Handsome Doug of WKTB] and I stayed up talking about music. Just instant family. I’ve worked with him on every record since.

They’re married. The two of them have moved out to Delaware together, and live near the beach. They’ve been doing Who Killed Teddy Bear and making the music and videos, and just going for it in this way that I love. Doug is also a classical cellist and a computer scientist who works for NASA. They’re a super couple that can do anything. I love the vibe of this song. I love this idea of low expectations. I think it’s helpful. I’m really into the humour of their music. It’s important right now. I like that they take themselves so seriously, and they obviously put a lot of care into crafting things, but there’s that flipside of not taking it very seriously. They’ve dealt with enough divas in their lives.
