12. Add N To (X)Avant Hard

There was a record shop in Williamsburg called Earwax and it was one of those shops like Kim’s Video where you could ask the person working there for recommendations, and they would begrudgingly show you something, like, “I don’t know if you’re cool enough to listen to this, but maybe…” And this was one of those situations. The guy there was always really super-kind, the facade fell away as soon as I was like, “No, show me the weird shit, I want to hear all that”. So he gave this to me. It’s great, compact and electronic, but you can clearly hear it’s a band, and it has this very aggressive, punk nature to it. And the track titles are great, like ‘Steve Is Going To Teach Himself Who’s Boss’, and ‘Metal Fingers In My Body’. There’s another band I feel was kind of parallel to them, called Dymaxion, though I can’t find anything about them online. I remember the cover kind of looked photo-copied, like a bootleg or something, and it was the same deal, using samplers with guitars and drum machines, like a punk band with samplers. I remember getting those two together, the guy at Earwax recommended them, and I was just like, “Oh yeah, this is perfect”.
