Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

1. Alice ColtraneTransfiguration

Phil Manley: We listened to this record while we were setting up to record Volume X. This record proves that it doesn’t really matter what you play, it’s all a matter of how you play it. Alice Coltrane really steps out on this one. She abuses the pitch bend function on her organ which has a really trippy effect. I got to see Alice Coltrane play in San Francisco a few months before she died. It was a really transportive experience.
