Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. PhutureAcid Tracks

Sebastian Thomson: Technically this is a 12" and not an album… but I had to include this. I was always interested in electronic music, starting with things like Kraftwerk and Herbie Hancock’s Future Shock, and then going to Aphex Twin and Plasticman etc. However, a lot of house music passed me by. I think this was mainly due to the fact that my first exposure to it was commercial house music that I hated. Phuture was important to me in that it showed me that house music, acid in this case, can be underground, dark and heavy. This 12" opened my eyes to a whole new world, particularly the track ‘Your Only Friend’.
