Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

4. The BeatlesSgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

…chosen by Sgt Floyd Pepper

While I do not mean to to suggest that this most iconic of discs is named after me, you gotta admit there is a suspicious similarity between the album title and yours truly’s nom de rock. This sublime selection of Lennon-McCartney ditties pioneered the whole concept of concept albums, and once again, its concept and my life are eerily alike: ‘Strawberry Fields’ – Been there, done that. ‘Penny Lane’ – Lived there, been evicted. ‘Fixin’ A Hole’ – Why I got evicted. And, of course, every gig I’ve ever played has been ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’. But I hold no grudge. The Beatles are my be all, though wish they would’ve put me on the album cover.
