Metallica – Master Of Puppets
It feels like they were operating at the maximum possible level on this album, and the riffs obviously came first and then they just put songs around them. All the songs have this amazing backbone, the production is really up there and really textural compared to their other records. And it’s so dark and paranoid and has this otherworldly vibe to it that I don’t think any of the other albums have. If you listen to the layering of the guitars you can tell they did a lot of work on the bass sound on this record, it almost feels shoegaze-y in parts (as much as I don’t like that term) which, for the style of music and the year, is pretty crazy. Out of all of these records I’ve chosen, I still listen to this and Deftones the most.
