Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. The WhoThen And Now (The Best Of The Who)

To be honest with you, my musical education is sort of lacking in terms of The Who’s albums, but I love the idea of them as a band. I know that that sounds like a bit of a contradiction but these days people tend to hone in on particular tracks rather than albums.

The thing that got me into The Who was the films, like The Kids Are Alright. You see the full, live versions of things like ‘Baba O’Riley’ and ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ and you know you’re dealing with something really exceptional. This is next-level stuff. I looked at a couple of their other albums like Who’s Next but I only really knew a few of the tracks from that; with a Best Of you get all the tracks you need from them on one album.
