Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Buffalo TomLet Me Come Over

This was hard to choose, mainly because Bill Janovitz is one of my best friends. I’m not questioning their new album, because Quiet and Peace also I would put up there with his album – but just in terms of all-time favourites… It might smell of nepotism but it is not: Let Me Come Over was before we were friends. Now of course we were in the same community so we knew each other. But this album was on heavy rotation in my apartment when it came out. And my roommate and I at the time would just really sit down with it. This is one of those albums that actually plant your ass on the couch when it’s on. I’m not gonna be walking around the house doing other things when this one’s on. ‘Taillights Fade’ was everywhere. We were saturated with that song here. But it was actually ‘Frozen Lake’ and ‘Crutch’ that pulled me in on a deeper level, and that’s when I really started diving in to this one. I just love this record. Tom and the Muses and Belly, we were always on tour at the same time, so I never really got to connect with them personally until after things had settled a little. We play together all the time now, our families are really close, our daughters are very close friends.
