Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

That was the album [bandleader Ruban Nielson] was touring when he approached us to produce Gas Lit. [Nielson is also the producer of Systemic.] I was completely blown away; I never heard of his work before and I was like "This is awesome, I’m so excited!" These songs are great.

I had a chance to tour with him a little bit, and I’ve spent a lot of time with Ruban’s music and I’m grateful he’s spent a lot of time with our music too. It just feels really good, I have deep appreciation. Ruban has great energy as a producer. He’s so easy to be around, he’s so caring, sweet, a wonderful person. And he’s a genius, which is cool! You want a beautiful genius to be helping you out with your music!
