Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

5. Miles DavisIn A Silent Way

I had to include this album because over time it has literally changed the way I think about music and opened a door for me to take a look on the other side. My fellow band member and collaborator Dan McKinna might call this album an example of ‘modal composition’ (sorry Dan) But for me it gave me chance to imagine music without the song structures I felt frustrated and bound by. Its gradual and light-handed influence is all over Arrhythmia.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Nite Jewel, Gareth Jones, Fimber Bravo, Rumer
