Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

10. Laurie AndersonBig Science

Another classic, another unique voice on a record that sounds even more fresh and relevant today than it did when it was made. All the music here is tight and minimal, each idea taken to its very essence – easier to do with contemporary recording, but back then with musicians and tape machines is a little awe-inspiring for me. I find the title track incredibly moving, when the small melody of the chorus enters I hold my breath. And when the wolves howl, my cat Denis hides behind the sideboard.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Anthony Fantano, Circuit des Yeux, , Amanda Palmer
