8. Hiatus Kaiyote‘Red Room’

This song could make me cry. I went to the Blue Note Jazz Festival with my friend because she wanted to go so bad. We drove up to San Francisco and [Hiatus Kaiyote] were there. And it was so cute because Black people love [singer Nai Palm]. She was killing it. She was kind of freaking it out. She’s really got these cool rhythms going on that are, like, her own thing. I had taken some shrooms that day, because it was my first festival in a while. And I was just like, I don’t like this shit. It’s so overwhelming. I’m hot. But then I saw her perform and I was like, oh, this is so nice. Just seeing this is worth the whole thing.
And this song is just so good because I like vague songs. She’s talking about a red room in the song, but it could mean so many different things to different people. She says, it feels like I’m inside a flower. I’ve never heard that before.
