Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9. MC5Looking At You

We’ve had ‘Panic In Detroit’ so we’re staying in Detroit. The great thing about this track if you look on YouTube, I forget it says some State University and they’re opening at a gig. There are crowds around the amps and all that.

It’s the same as that Cheap Trick song ‘I Want You To Want Me’. The recorded version’s shit but the live version’s great. Some records, the live versions are better than the recorded but this one, when you watch the YouTube thing of it, it’s just magical. They were the Godfathers of punk rock really, along with The Stooges. I’ve met Wayne Kramer, the guitarist. I said, He’s amazing, and he said, ‘we weren’t as good as The Buzzcocks’. It’s just a fantastic track – that’s excitement.
