Eduard Artemyev – Solaris OST

I’m a Tarkovsky fan. I love Solaris, I love Stalker, and I also love those kind of Russian films. I also chose it because Eduard Artemyev, is kind of like the Russian Vangelis. He worked under the name of the Electronic Music Experiment Studio Ensemble, but I think it was just him. The Russians mimicked EMS and the early Moog modulars and made their own modular synths, so it’s quite unique. He had his own synthesiser set up to make these soundtracks and I just think there’s a mood about those Tarkovsky films that’s just beautiful, really eerie and just odd, and which you don’t see anywhere else. Those films, that kind of period and what was coming out of Russia. I think he made hundreds of soundtracks, he was like a soundtrack factory. 99% of them I’ve not seen.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Lord Spikeheart, Tom Ravenscroft
