The Haxan Cloak – Midsommar OST

There’s probably a whole Baker’s Dozen to be done about folk-horror soundtracks which are really amazing… Wicker Man, that type of thing. The Apostle was really good. Really dark, really trippy. Also I didn’t want every film to be old. And I do love Haxan Cloak. Haxan Cloak, which is Bobby Krlic, did the course that I teach on years ago — he’s a graduate of the Sound Arts course in Digital Music in its earlier days, which I didn’t know until recently. I chose this because I like Haxan Cloak and that film’s quite trippy. The whole look of the film is somewhere between a kind of a butter advert and some kind of gothic film, which is bizarre, I know. There are loads of others I probably would have chosen outside this. Like The Lighthouse soundtrack as well. If sci-fi has hit a brick wall in some respects as films, the darker noir gothic movies have really started to come into their own. I see more interesting films in that area now.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Lord Spikeheart, Tom Ravenscroft
