My mate’s brother would give me these tapes with the Pebbles collections on, which I think got reissued sometime in the mid-1980s. All these garage bands – the Nuggets collection too, with The Electric Prunes and all that. It was the way they looked and the way they sounded. In the 1960s, no one was really into it – they were so obscure. It’s bubblegum, but super adventurous. And it had an attitude that appealed to me. I was obsessed with a lot of the 1960s stuff.
