Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

12. Agent X

So this is another tune that he made, the one that I had a special of which had a galaxy-sounding sort of spacey noise at the beginning. Like the sound of the universe itself, and then it went “DJ Slimzee…” in a big bassy voice, then the big dun dun dun bass just slammed right in. The VIP version of that track never came out to this day. That was an undercover one. It was a big tune, don’t get me wrong. I mean ‘Decoy’ was one of his biggest tunes but this was probably his second biggest. You won’t find that VIP version anywhere. I’ve even lost the DAT or CD it was on so I’ll never get it again myself! I can just remember it though. Oh man, that intro was so good. I think there’s maybe one tape pack with me playing it, one of the Sidewinder ones. You need to know what you’re listening out for, but you can hear that intro, it’s like a Superman saves the universe kind of thing. I might hit him up. He’s hard to get hold of though. Harder than me? Yes! I have no idea where he went. He just disappeared for years. I spoke to him about a year ago, but that was it. Didn’t hear anything after that. He’s a rare guy though. People were trying to get interviews out of him, but he’s just not about now. I think he makes house and techno these days.
