9. Everything But The GirlWalking Wounded
Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl was a big album, the one with all the hits on it. Again it was the storytelling which really got me. I was into that kind of electronic stuff, it was so 90s, but really, when you think about it, what was the presiding music of the 90s? We had Goldie and drum & bass. That was massive. We had Soul II Soul, from the 80s into the rise of dance music. We had grunge, trip hop, Bjork, Britpop, Brit rock, reggae was still big back in those days. All of this stuff came out at the same fucking time. We had R&B and soul, then we had the pop thing with Spice Girls. All that stuff was all huge at the same time. Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston at the same time as Tricky and Prodigy and Skunk Anansie. Now we listen to Radio One, it’s this one fucking music. The storytelling is shit, the production is shit. It’s so generic. Where’s the new Walking Wounded? I put that on when I’m cooking. I have vinyl in my house so I have to turn them over [laughs], but that was a great electronic album. I like whole albums, we didn’t do playlists in my day, we just put whole albums on.
