Baker's Dozen

Artists discuss the 13 records that shaped their lives

9.

One of the things about This is Spinal Tap that amazed me was that when I first saw it was that I didn’t even know those guys were American. I was shocked to discover they were doing accents. It blew me away and subsequently watching films like Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show, they’ve always been more fun to watch because of this movie.

But that particular film is such a lining in a bottle; it can be seen as a film or a series of very funny sketches. There’s just as much excellent deleted material – in fact, if you watch the movie with the commentary on the DVD with them in character, it’s like watching it for the first time – it’s a whole new experience and really funny.

Selected in other Baker’s Dozens: Lord Spikeheart, Tom Ravenscroft
